It’s time for another Library Life post, where I share a glimpse of the library and give you something you can try out if interested.
Today, I’m sharing a not-fancy video of how I start and end every library class.
I sometimes joke that I am a routine robot — I use literally the same phrases to open and close each class. But I find that it helps both me and the kids settle into a lovely routine, with the added bonus of decreasing unexpected student behaviors.
When I was learning to be a classroom teacher, the thing I found most radically helpful was getting into other classrooms and watching how teachers did things. I always found something I wanted to try myself, or was able to do fresh thinking about what might work for me instead.
As librarians, getting to see our peers in action is rare, so I’m hoping that this video serves you in at least an echo of the way coming to visit me in my library might.
Rather than sharing a video recorded with students (hello, FERPA!), I have reenacted my routines outside of my contracted work day — please excuse the cringe of doing this without actual children and my truly basic Canva editing skills…
