A recording from Chrissie Wright's live video
2

Thank you to everyone who tuned into our May LIVE Q&A! Couldn’t join us live? Enjoy the replay and notes below.

Here’s a rundown of what we chatted about with resources referred to in the video:

Weeding

  • Picture books are for the here and now. Listen to Jon Klassen talk about the ephemerality of picture books here, and take it to heart as you ruthlessly weed your picture book shelf.

  • Read The Five Kinds of Nonfiction by Melissa Stewart to refine the way you think about nonfiction collection development and what your readers like (or don’t).

  • Keep in mind:

    • Time: if you’re new-ish to your library, wait at least a year to get to know your collection before tackling big weeding projects.

    • One section at a time: set your bar low — aim for one section per year. Anything beyond that is a bonus.

    • Touch every book: use your Spidey sense and consider the following not-fancy questions
