About Me:
By day, I am a K-5 Teacher-Librarian in the Pacific Northwest. Before becoming a full-time book nerd in the library, I was a classroom teacher for over a decade — teaching K, 2, 3, and 4 in NYC, Newark, and Seattle.
By night, I am an avid devourer of all things kidlit. You can find me sharing glimmers from the library and quick book talks on Instagram @librarychrissie, and hear me gushing about books on my podcast, Book Delight with Chrissie Wright.
What You Can Expect:
After almost two decades of watching kids fall in love with reading in the classroom and the library, I can’t help but think deeply about books kids love (and ones they don’t). You can expect mountains of book recs as well as reflections on what makes kidlit great.
Here’s the lineup:
Monthly Free Kidlit Newsletter
Free subscribers receive Chrissie Writes, my monthly newsletter. On the last Sunday of each month, I share:
The Read Aloud Test: books that pass the test of thrilling kids when read aloud dozens of times to hundreds of kids in my elementary library.
Get Graphic: monthly recs of the best graphic novels published for kids.
Book Recs: a selection of middle grade books I’ve read and loved lately, often audio.
Library Life: a reflection or a peek at something I’m trying in my library.
Want more?
For $7 a month, subscribers receive a weekly Friday treat in their inbox. Recurring features include:
Ursula Nordstrom Would Never: (third Friday) picture books that don’t pass the kid appeal test and why.
Starred Review Rundown: (fourth Friday) a rundown kidlit that received a starred review in trade review publications in the past month and what I think.
Bonus Reading Raves: (first Friday) a peek at grown-up reads I’ve been loving lately.
On weeks that don’t have a recurring feature, I’ll share a piece of bookish or kidlit-related content, whether it’s a roundup of interviews with kidlit creators I’ve been listening to and loving, a bonus booklist, a resource I’ve made for my school library, or something else.
Thank you for reading and subscribing to Chrissie Writes! I’m so glad you’re here!
